Do you remember it? When summer actually meant having a break. When summer equaled magic. I do. And I miss it. It’s starting to get humid in the south, and I’m beginning to feel like it’s too hot to work. And I have a cool job. I can’t imagine how I would feel if I worked in a cubicle or hated my job. I think what I’m feeling is common. There’s a sense of unrest that happens in the summer. We want to do more, be outside more, work less, wear less clothes, and put an emphasis on FUN. AMIRIGHTPEOPLE?!?! So I thought it was a good idea to make a smoothie that both cooled me down physically, and calmed me down mentally and emotionally. So that’s where this idea came from.
Berries, oats and walnuts have proven calming properties. So I threw them all in one blender and added a bit of natural sweetness with banana, dates, and coconut water. It makes for a super sweet smoothie, which is why when I make it I like to top it with extra oats, walnuts, and fresh blueberries. That way you can get some added flavor and texture contrast. I know it may sound weird to put dry oats and walnuts in a smoothie, but trust me you won’t know it’s there. And you’ll get all the benefits. So enjoy your smoothie, but more importantly – enjoy your summer!
