HEYOOOOOO. It’s that cozy, snowy, cold, cuddly, frothy drink drinkin’ time of year. And I’m here with the drink of the century. It sounds simple enough (and it is), but when you hear the layers that go into this Coconut Dirty Chai recipe you’re gonna pass out and die. JK. Don’t do that. But like, drool or something. That’s totally kosher.
A dirty chai is generally a pretty straight forward drink : chai tea, espresso, and milk. This coconut dirty chai has layers of coconutty goodness all up in it, and in a totally surprising way.
- First, you start by brewing your coffee/espresso with coconut water. WOAH.
- Then, you infuse chai spices into your milk.
- After that you combine the two and top it off with your homemade COCONUT WHIPPED CREAM. (Holy wowza – yes, you can.)
- Finally add some actual coconut shreds and marshmallows on top, and then cry out of shear joy.
Let’s talk about what brewing coffee or espresso with coconut water does… Well, basically it perfects coffee. Because it cuts down on the acidity of coffee so you are left with a sweet, creamy, and slightly thicker coffee than before. And you really will never have a need for creamer or sugar in your coffee ever again. WOAH? Did I just change the whole world. Probably…
The other cool thing about this recipe is that it works for all sorts of diets (ie. if you use vegan marshmallows then it’s completely vegan), and it’s also refined sugar free (except the mallows, but who’s counting really?) So it’s a nice cozy, sweet, delicious drink, but also pretty healthy! That’s pretty win-win-win for me.
I really like to drink this on cold gross days when I’m working. Because it makes the work day feel like a special treat and also brightens my soul. ‘Cause you know caffeine and warm drinks are the solution to all of life’s problems. You can quote me on that. SO if you are into all things good and delicious, than this is the recipe for you.

Holy SHHHHHHHH!! This is crazy delicious! First of all, I love all of the photos on the UO blog for the recipe! I actually did a drink recipe for them, too, recently – super cool peeps to work with. Okay. I have to say that I have never thought to brew espresso with coconut water, but that is pure genius. My mind is aflutter with ideas to make ice dirty chais with a lil’ bourbon in the mix. And, yes, please on the coconut whipped cream. I’m such a sucker for that! :-))))))
