Ever since I was a kid, honey mustard was my favorite dipping sauce. Literally nothing else was good enough to touch my nugs. Not ketchup. Not mustard. Not your Zack sauce, or Chick-fil-a whatever, or any other sauce. I was a honey mustard kid through and through. And when I got my first cookbook, Emeril’s There’s a Chef in My Soup, I learned how to make my own chicken nuggets and honey mustard. And for a while I thought it was awesome that the only three ingredients were mayo, mustard, and honey. I could make it anytime all the time. But I got older and realized just how ick that combo is for your body on a large scale. So I cut down on the whole honey mustard thing. But every now and again I just get a hankering and I want to slather it all over some fries of meatless nugs or a burger or even a salad! So I decided to health-ify the sauce slightly.
These two versions are great, because they are “health-ier” in their own way and they have unique flavors. The greek yogurt honey mustard is fun because it provides a bit of protein into the mix, and it carries a unique yogurt flavor. It’s really delicious! And it’s great because often I just have those three ingredients lying in my fridge. So I can make it anytime I want. The vegan version is closer to a true honey mustard dipping sauce in flavor, but the substitution of vegan mayo and coconut nectar make it slightly healthier! This one is thinner than a regular honey mustard sauce would be, so It can serve you well as a salad dressing if you’re feeling dangerous.
Okay now let’s get to my favorite part of Saucy Sunday, the things I loved this week! Here is the definitive list of everything I fell in love with during the past 7 days…
- Sherri from With Food & Love threw a pop up dinner party that looked so beautiful I almost cried. I’m tempted to drive all the way to St. Louis for her next one.
- This American Life (an amazing podcast) did an episode called “The Perils of Intimacy” and it’s one of the best hours of radio I’ve ever listened to.
- I think I’m officially gazpacho obsessed, ’cause this White Gazpacho looks SO GOOD.
- The video of this 12 year old singer on America’s Got Talent made me cry.
- The new RadioLab (another podcast) spinoff called “More Perfect” and it’s all about the Supreme Court. That might sound dull but I promise it’s SO INTERESTING. The first episode is about the death penalty if that tickles your fancy.
