I was born a true toe head. Just platinum blonde hair everywhere. So when my hair started to darken in high school, I obviously freaked out. ‘Cause in the south, blonde + tan = beauty. So I started using a combo of Luminize and Sun-In to lighten my hair. (Who else remembers those???) If you don’t know, they are hair “lighteners” that essentially just turn your hair a light shade of orange. But I loved it. Orange-blonde was better than brown (EW!) haha. So everyday my friends and I would spray our hair with sun in, put on our bathing suits, blend together virgin pina coladas from the can, and head straight to the pool. Obviously we thought we were very sophisticated.
When I say that I did that same routine every day. I literally mean EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. That means I probably went through hundreds of those weird frozen pina colada mix cans. You know, the kind that are full of sugar and lacking in nutritional value? Yeah, those. I drank so many. I guess the upside is that they were virgin (is that an upside?) I don’t know. Anyway, I know now that the combo of coconut cream + “pineapple juice” (aka. pineapple flavored sugar water) isn’t super great for my body. So I did what I always do and I health-ified the damn thing. ‘Cause I still wanna go to the pool and get tan and drink pina coladas. Except now, I don’t want to be blonde and I want alcohol in my drinks. haha.
So this Healthy Peach Pina Colada was born! It’s got actual frozen fruit in it, plus I reduced the amount of coconut cream in the drink, by adding in some coconut water. (ooohh hydration) I also replaced all of the refined sugar with a more natural sugar, coconut nectar. It goes along with the coconut flavors already in the drink and just adds a hint of sweetness. This is seriously the best/healthiest pina colada ever. You’re welcome.
