The secret’s out on Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe so we’re going to let you in on another one: this dough can be used for all KINDS of stuff. What Else Can You Make with Pizza Dough? Get as creative as you’d like, but we’re going to show you how to make some naan-style flatbreads, jelly-filled doughnuts, and amazing sesame rolls/hamburger buns. If you’ve been asking yourself, What Else Can You Make with Pizza Dough?, you came to the right place.
Ryan uses his Easy Pizza Dough Recipe as an all-purpose dough because it’s super easy to make and has great flavor. We’ve repurposed it into three different recipes today, from chewy flatbreads to jelly-filled sweet treats to super versatile sesame rolls. Now theoretically, you COULD use pre-made pizza dough from the grocery store in place of Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe, but you’ll have to make some adjustments and we just can’t promise perfect results, as every dough is different.
Tips for store-bought dough: If you’re heading to the grocery store to explore the question of What Else Can You Make with Pizza Dough?, be sure to buy the kind that’s kept in the refrigerated section and typically comes in a bag. You’ll want to remove it from the bag and place it in an oiled bowl, then cover it with plastic wrap and let it come to room temperature for one hour. From there, divide it into the number of parts you need depending on the recipe you’re making and rest the balls in a floured plastic bag. Then let those rise in a warm place for about an hour and you’re ready to start!
ANYWAY, if you ARE using Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe (like we recommend), keep in mind that it makes enough for two pizzas—check the serving size on store-bought dough and adjust accordingly. With Ryan’s dough, it just might be a fantastic idea to whip up a batch of dough, use half to make a pizza, and use the other half to answer What Else Can You Make with Pizza Dough? If you decide to use half the dough to make a pizza, be sure to divide the rest of the batch into half of the recommended parts for each recipe. For example, if you’re making a pizza and flatbreads, remember that you’ll be making 6 flatbreads instead of 12.
Okay, that’s enough math for us. Let’s see what we can make.
Flatbreads
ingredients
- Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe
- Melted Butter
- Garlic Cloves
- Parsley
- Flaky Sea Salt
the process
step one
Start by following steps 1-4 of Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe through the dough’s first rise, then divide your dough into 12 equal parts. On a lightly floured surface, begin to shape each piece by gently flattening your dough, then pulling all four corners into the center to create a seam. Pinch the seam to seal it and shape it into a ball with your hands.
Once you’ve shaped all 12 pieces of your dough, place in a lightly floured zip top bag or on a floured tray loosely wrapped with plastic or foil. Whichever method you’re using, be sure to space out the dough pieces so they have room to rise.
Place in a warm area for about an hour until they’ve doubled in size. Time to grab your rolling pin!
step two
Get some all-purpose flour and generously flour your work space. Use your rolling pin to roll each dough ball out into an oval or oblong shape. You’ll want to make sure the area is well-floured throughout the process so keep sprinkling if you need to!
Heat a cooking skillet with some high heat cooking oil over medium-high heat. You want that baby real hot. Then add your flatbread and cook for about one minute on each side. You’ll know when to flip when it’s a nice golden brown color and you’ve developed some bubbles in it. Transfer to a wire rack and repeat the process for all 12 flatbreads.
step three
Let your flatbreads cool slightly, then get to the good stuff! Brush each flatbread lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with Minced Garlic, Chopped Parsley, and a touch of Flaky Sea Salt.
That’s it! Now you’ve got some soft and squishy flatbreads with beautiful bubbles. Enjoy as a side to pretty much anything, grab your favorite dip, or use them to make some tasty wraps.

Jelly Donuts
ingredients

- Frying Oil
- Jam: Any kind you’d like!
- Powdered Sugar (or Cinnamon Sugar)
the process
step one
Ready for a sweet treat? Start by following steps 1-4 of Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe through the dough’s first rise, then divide your dough into 24 evenly sized pieces. Begin to shape each piece by lightly pinching out your dough, then pulling all four corners into the center to create a seam. Pinch the seam to seal it and shape it into a ball with your hands.
Once you’ve shaped all 24 pieces of your dough, place in a lightly floured zip top bag or on a floured tray loosely wrapped with plastic or foil. Whichever method you’re using, be sure to space out the dough pieces so they have room to rise.
Place in a warm area for about an hour or so until they’ve doubled in size. Now we can get cooking!
step two
Heat a small pot of frying oil to 350 degrees. A candy thermometer is the safest way to ensure you’ve got the temperature right. You could use a larger pot and cook a few of these at a time, but we recommend a smaller one so you don’t have to use as much cooking oil.
Once your oil is heated, add your dough balls one at a time. If cooking more than one in a pot, be sure not to overcrowd them. Use a spoon to continuously toss the dough in the hot oil until it’s a golden brown color on the outside and cooked on the inside. Transfer to a wire rack and let’s turn these little guys into dessert!
step three
Make a small indentation in each roll with a narrow knife and pipe in whatever jam or jelly you’re craving. We made strawberry and raspberry filled donuts, but anything delicious will do. You can use a piping bag to make the filling process easy. If you don’t have one, try cutting off the corner of a zip top bag and go from there. A little messy never hurt anyone.
Once all your donuts are filled, generously dust them with powdered sugar. Since these are made from Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe, the dough itself isn’t too sweet. That’s why a good dose of powdered sugar is necessary—it’ll take them from savory to sweet in no time. You can also roll them in cinnamon sugar if that’s more up your alley!

Sesame Rolls/Hamburger Buns
ingredients
- Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe ** link **
- Egg, whisked to use as egg wash
- Sesame Seeds
the process
step one
Start by following steps 1-4 of Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe through the dough’s first rise. Divide your dough into either 4 or 6 evenly sized pieces, depending on how big you want your rolls. Begin to shape each piece by lightly pinching out your dough, then pull all four corners into the center to create a seam. Pinch the seam to seal it and shape it into a ball with your hands.
Once you’ve shaped all pieces of your dough, place in a lightly floured zip top bag or on a floured tray loosely wrapped with plastic or foil. Whichever method you’re using, be sure to space out the dough pieces so they have room to rise.
Place in a warm area until they’ve just-under-doubled in size. This should take about 45 minutes to an hour. Now you’re ready to roll!
step two
Preheat your oven to 475 degrees and insert your cast iron pans or Dutch oven in order to preheat those as well. Using a Dutch oven (or one cast iron pan covered by another) to bake your buns will ensure a nice crispy crust on both the top and bottom of the rolls.
When ready to bake, use a sharp knife to score the top of each dough ball with an X. Lightly beat 1 Egg and brush each roll with the egg wash. Sprinkle with some sesame seeds for that classic added flavor (or any other seeds you’d like) and place in your cast iron cage or Dutch oven to bake! If you don’t have a Dutch oven or two cast irons to stack, try baking in a cast iron covered by a baking sheet. You’ll be fine no matter what, you might just have a little less crisp.
step three
Bake your rolls at 475 degrees for about 20-25 minutes. If you divided your dough into 6 rolls rather than 4, you’ll cook for a little less time. Keep an eye on them—you’ll know they’re done because they’ll sound hollow when tapped. Let them cool on a wire rack and that’s that!
So What Else Can You Make with Pizza Dough? All kinds of stuff! But remember to make some actual pizza too using Ryan’s Easy Pizza Dough Recipe.

Pizza Dough Sesame Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 recipe Ryan's Easy Pizza Dough
- 1 egg, whisked
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
-
Follow instructions for Ryan's Easy Pizza Dough Recipe to step 4.
-
Cut the dough into four or six even pieces.
-
Flatten each one then fold the four sides into the center and pinch the seam shut. Roll the dough into a ball seam side down on the counter to seal fully.
-
Place the each dough in a floured zip top bag or on a floured tray loosely covered with plastic or foil, place in a warm area and allow dough to rise just under double in size, about 45 minutes to an hour.
-
Heat oven to 475℉ and insert a cast iron pan.
-
When ready to bake, using a sharp knife score an X into the top of each roll, lightly beat an egg and brush each roll, top with sesame seeds if desired, and place onto the cast iron, do this in batches if there isn’t enough room on the tray, cover with a lid if possible, a sheet tray would work fine as long as the pan is deep enough, but this part isn’t fully necessary, the rolls will just be slightly less crusty.
-
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until rolls are done, they will sound hollow when tapped on bottom, allow to cool.
